Lyle had a distinguished military career as a fighter pilot and squadron commander of the 35th TFS, U.S. Air Force. He earned two Silver Stars as the result of shooting down two Russian MIGs:

  • 23-May-72  F-4E USAF AIM-7 MiG-19 N. Vietnam
  • 12-Sep-72   F-4E USAF AIM-9/Cannon MiG-21 N. Vietnam

Lyle. did three tours in Vietnam, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

He began a second career as a real estate developer, with ventures in Las Vegas and the Napa Valley. Lyle and his wife Jeannie relocated from Napa to Gainesville in 2008 to live with their daughter.

Super Sabre Society member Lyle L. Beckers, 81, left us on September 24, 2014.

Lyle passed on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, in Gainesville, Georgia.

Born on Aug. 23, 1933, in Gregory, SD, Lyle had a distinguished military career as a fighter pilot and squadron commander of the 35th TFS, U.S. Air Force. He earned two Silver Stars as the result of shooting down two Russian MIGs, and did three tours in Vietnam, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

Lyle began a second career as a real estate developer, with ventures in Las Vegas and the Napa Valley. Lyle relocated from Napa to Gainesville in 2008 to live with his daughter.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Jeannie; three children, Patti Latimer of Sacramento, California; Lisa Beckers of Skokie, Illinois; and Laurice Repke of Gainesville, Georgia; dear siblings Mary Jensen, William Beckers and Helen Hennessey; and five grandchildren.

The Pentagon approved a Fly-Over for Lyle on April 6th, 2015, Maryland National Guard will be flying the A-10 Warthog (Tank Killer). We are all so pleased that this will actually happen, unless of course the weather turns bad! So,  Pray for no rain at Arlington that day.
