Headed West

During [Martin’s] 21 year career as a fighter pilot and test pilot in the USAF, he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Panama Canal Conflict, and 2 tours in Vietnam. He received numerous commendations in the Air Force including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued on as a corporate pilot for various companies. His final position was with Ervin Cable Company as Chief Pilot/Aviation Manager. (1)

William E. Brummett, LtCol USAF, Ret., “Headed West” on January 16, 2014.

Lt. Colonel William E. Brummett (retired), age 77, of Pride, KY died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Methodist Hospital Union County.

He was a 1955 Sturgis High School graduate. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1960, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He later earned a Masters Degree from Troy State University. Upon graduation from the University of Kentucky, he accepted a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force. During his 21 year career as a fighter pilot and test pilot in the USAF, he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Panama Canal Conflict, and 2 tours in Vietnam. He received numerous commendations in the Air Force including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued on as a corporate pilot for various companies. His final position was with Ervin Cable Company as Chief Pilot/Aviation Manager. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Kenneth and Barbara Almeda (Haney) Brummett; brother, Norman Earl Brummett.

Survivors include wife of 57 years, Helen Lou (Duncan) Brummett, of Pride, Ky.; two sons, ; one daughter; five grandchildren,

Funeral service [was held on] Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, Ky. Rev. David Oaks will officiate. Burial [in] Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.
