Jack Carney “enlisted at the age of 17 in September of 1950 and proudly served his county for 27 years. For most of his flying career he operated a variety of fixed wing aircraft.

During his exciting career he traveled and lived worldwide often accompanied by his family. During his career as a tactical fighter pilot he flew the F4 Phantom with multiple tours in Germany and Vietnam.

Mr. Carney retired as Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF in December 1977 at Keesler AFB, Biloxi MS.” (1)

Jack Larry Carney age 86, a resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi passed away on November 9, 2019 at Merit Health Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi.

He was born in Houston, Texas on July 13, 1933, he grew up near Hugo, Oklahoma with his parents and siblings. As the youngest of six brothers Mr. Carney enlisted at the age of 17 in September of 1950 and proudly served his county for 27 years. For most of his flying career he operated a variety of fixed wing aircraft. During his exciting career he traveled and lived worldwide often accompanied by his family. During his career as a tactical fighter pilot he flew the F4 Phantom with multiple tours in Germany and Vietnam. Mr. Carney retired as Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF in December 1977 at Keesler AFB, Biloxi MS.

He loved the Mississippi Gulf Coast and settled in Ocean Springs to be close to his family. Even after his retirement his love for flying never diminished. He loved his family and he loved animals especially his adopted dogs. Jack was a loving, caring and giving father and friend. He was un-selfish and trusting and a kind hearted man. He was a friend to all of those who knew him and loved him. He will be deeply missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his longtime companion, Violet Polmanteer; his brothers, Clark Carney, Reed Carney, Wade Carney and Bill Carney.

Jack is survived by his son, Steven Carney and his wife Cynthia; his former wife Christel; his brother, Hoke Carney and his wife Dina; and his two grandchildren, Daniel Carney, and Sarah Carney; and Violet’s son David Polmanteer and relatives; Ted, Kerry, Dixie, Leslie, Kim, Clive, and Glenda.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation for friends and family from 1:00 p.m. until the service, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd., at Washington Ave. in West Jackson County.

In lieu of flowers, Jack would have preferred donations be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter at 4400 Audubon Ln., Gautier, MS 39553 to help care for homeless and hungry animals.

Ocean Springs

Funeral is 2 PM, Fri, 11/22/19, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Lemoyne Blvd, West Jackson County, with a visitation from 1PM until 2 PM.
