Rod Doorenbos flew the F-100 from 1969-1975 with the 174th Tactical Fighter Squadron/185th Tactical Fighter Group of the Iowa ANG.

Rod is also the father of BGen Bobbi Doorenbos who became the first female F-16 fighter pilot in Air National Guard history,and the first female wing commander of the 188th TFG.

“So where does a former high school homecoming queen get the idea, let alone the determination, to become a fighter pilot? For Doorenbos, it came from her father. “(1)

Bobbi Doorenbos was 5 years old when her dad took her to the airport in Sioux City, Iowa, to watch him take off in an F-100 fighter jet.” (2)

When most girls were dreaming of becoming a ballerina, Doorenbos was looking to the sky for answers— and to catch a glimpse of her father.” Bobbi Doorenbos became a Brigadier General on Sept. 28, 2017. (1)
