After Retirement.

Col. Keith Heiniger was involved in numerous worldwide assignments, culminating his career with a Command Pilot Flight Rating and as the director of Operational Intelligence, USAFD Europe. During the Vietnam War he was a fighter pilot with the Misty Fast Forward Air Controllers Squadron. He successfully flew 356 aerial combat missions, accumulating more than 900 hours in aerial combat. He earned the Silver Star for gallantry, four Distinguished Flying Crosses for heroism and 15 Air Medals for meritorious actions. He retired from the Air Force in 1977 and joined the Order of Daedalians military pilots association. He became involved in professional land surveying and retired from the Wyoming Department of Transportation as a pilot in 1999.
