Born and raised in Los Angeles, Wally graduated from Dorsey High School, where he was on the track and gym teams.

He enlisted in the USAF, was a tail-gunner on B-29’s, and went on to become an F-86 and F-100 fighter pilot before retiring as a Major and flying for the Cal Air Natl Guard. He worked for Western and Delta Airlines as a Captain until his retirement.

Wally was an avid golfer, having learned to play while caddying at Hillcrest Country Club. He continued playing golf until a few months ago.

Wallace J. Mason, Maj USAF, Ret., “Headed West” on November 1, 2013.

Born in raised in Los Angeles, Wally was the first-born of Sam and Sally Mason. Graduated from Dorsey High School where he was on the track and gym teams.

He enlisted in the USAF, was a tail-gunner on B-29’s and went on to become an F-86 and F-100 fighter pilot before retiring as a Major and flying for the Cal Air Natl Guard. Captain Mason joined Western Airlines 06-18-1962 and retired with Delta Air Lines at the mandatory age 60 in 1992.  Captain Mason was based LAX for most of his career.

Wally is survived by his wife, Carmen, his daughter Katie, and son Lauren,  and four grandchildren. Wally was an avid golfer, having learned to play while caddying at Hillcrest Country Club.
Funeral services were held at Mount Sinai in the Hollywood Hills.
