“Lou served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1985, flying F-100, F-5, and F-4 fighter jets. He bravely served as a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. His exceptional service earned him numerous accolades, including The Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, multiple Air Medals, and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm. Lou concluded his military career as a Base Engineer at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, retiring as a full Colonel.

After retiring from the Air Force, Lou and his beloved wife, Roberta, moved to Mesa, Arizona. There, he served as the Director of Operations for Mesa Public Schools until his retirement in 2000. Lou and Roberta were happily married for 58 years and traveled extensively throughout their military and civilian lives.”(1)

Louis G. Rever, Col USAF, Ret., “Headed West” on July 4, 2024.

Lou passed away on July 4, 2024. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1938, Lou attended high school at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and started his college journey at Virginia Tech. He left college early to enter the Aviation Cadet Program, marking the beginning of a remarkable military career.

Lou served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1985, flying F-100, F-5, and F-4 fighter jets. He bravely served as a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. His exceptional service earned him numerous accolades, including The Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, multiple Air Medals, and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm. Lou concluded his military career as a Base Engineer at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, retiring as a full Colonel.

Lou is survived by his wife, Roberta Rever, his two children, Robin DeFilippi and Deborah Rever, his five grandchildren: Nick (Cindy), Claudia, Peter, Jacob, and Sagan; and great-grandchild, Greyson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Geneva Hackett, and his brother, Jerry Hackett.

Lou’s legacy of service, dedication, and love for his family will forever be remembered by those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Fall in Mesa, AZ; details will be forthcoming.
