Walt Rabe flew the F-100 from 1959-1962 with the 12th Tactical Fighter Squadron/18th Tactical Fighter Wing, out of Kadena AB, Okinawa. From 1962-1964 he was assigned to the 355th Tactical Fighter Squadron/354th Tactical Fighter Wing out of Myrtle Beach AFB, SC, where he continued to fly the F-100.

After a year flying the O-1 in Vietnam, in 1967 he remained in Vietnam and returned to flying the F-100 with the 306th Tactical Fighter Squadron.
