Military & Civilian Education

William “Bill” Welchel, LtCol USAF, Ret., “Headed West” on September 16, 2016.

William (Bill) Whelchel was born on February 21, 1930 in Gainsville, Georgia and passed away September 16, 2016 in Niceville, Florida.

Bill’s wife, Beverly Whelchel, his family and friends will celebrate his 86 years of life, where Bill faithfully served his family, friends and his beloved United Sates Air Force. Bill served his country for 22 years, many of which he was a fighter pilot for the USAF. His service included many stops throughout the country and world. In honor of his deep love and devotion to his flying years, and his love of the Fort Walton Beach community, Bill’s ashes will be spread by air over the Gulf of Mexico by his friend and fellow pilot Mr. Sandy Williams. Bill will always be remembered as a detail oriented, honest, rule-following man. Yet his wife, dogs, family and friends will remember him most for his kind heart, deep love and devotion to all he touched during his 86 wonderful years.

Bill’s life will be celebrated October 2, 2016 at Seaspray Condominiums, 1530 Miracle Strip Parkway, Fort Walton Beach. All friends and family are welcome to attend 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. where Bill will be given full military honors and a “final flight” for Lt. Col. William (Bill) Whelchel.
