Today in History – March 6, 1965 – The United States announces that it will send 3,500 troops to Vietnam.

On March 2, 1965, President Johnson had initiated “Rolling Thunder” a three-year campaign of sustained bombing of targets in North Vietnam and the Ho Chi Minh Trail. On March 6th he announced that another 3,500 troops would be sent.

On March 6, 1968 W.V. Tomlinson was serving with the 510 TFS/3 TFW out of Bien Hoa AB. “Buzzard 6” flying F-100 D #563269 is hit by gunfire and W.V. ejects. He is recovered with minor injuries.
