Today in History – October 5, 1965 – 1Lt John Charles Hauschildt is KIA when his F-100 is hit

5 October 1965 – First Lieutenant John Charles Hauschildt, served with the 481st Tactical Fighter Squadron, 6250th Combat Support Group, 13th Air Force out of Tan Son Nhut Air Base. During a mission over Phu Yen province, he encountered automatic weapon/small arms fire, and his F-100 #563074 was hit. Hauschildt was killed in the ensuing crash of the aircraft.

John is buried at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery, Colorado Springs, El Paso County, CO.
