In accordance with our organizational mission to ”preserve the history of the F-100 Super Sabre and the men who flew it,” the board has approved the proposal for a rock monument to be placed on the walk to Waxman Hall at the Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB, NV, “Home of the Fighter Pilot.” The idea of the monument is to complement (but not compete) with the monument placed by the F-86 Sabre Pilots Association and to continue the legacy of those who contributed in Air Force fighters. We have coordinated and received concurrence from JR Alley of the F-86 Association and the Commandant of the FWS, Col. “Cajun” Steven Behmer.
We have also selected a rock that was retrieved from the quarry west of Jean, NV south of Las Vegas. We are working with Dona Boyung of Las Vegas Rock to finalize the design and placement of our plaque and the transport and installation when complete. When we complete arrangements and have final costs and photos, our intent is to ask for donations from members so as not to deplete our working capital. When the final installation is complete, we intend to arrange a very short ceremony and lunch followed by a briefing on current tactics and events by the Fighter Weapons School – respectfully – Don Shepperd, President, The Super Sabre Society.
