Major General Paul A. Pochmara was the Air National Guard assistant to the commander, Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), located at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The command has responsibility for weapons systems research, development, testing, and acquisitions and is responsible for depot-level maintenance for the United States Air Force.

The General began his military career as an officer training candidate in 1966. After receiving his pilot wings and check-out in F-4s, he was assigned to Misawa Air Base, Japan. From there he went to Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C. as an F-4 pilot and command post officer. He left active duty in Dec 1971 and in 1972 joined the Michigan Air National Guard, where he held a variety of positions with the 127 TFW, and in 1980, as squadron commander.

In 1985, General Pochmara was assigned to Phelps-Collins CRTC as base commander. In 1987, he served as deputy chief of plans and programs and was appointed as deputy director of manpower and personnel, National Guard Bureau. In 1988, the General became chief of the ANG plans and operations division, National Guard Bureau. General Pochmara was appointed to his previous position as commander of the 113th Wing in July 1990 and to his last Assignment with AFMC in May 1998.

Major General Paul A. Pochmara retired from the USAF in October of 1991.
