“Dallas was born on December 7, 1929 in Carlsbad, California. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson high school in 1947 in Long Beach California and later graduated from San Mateo College. He joined the Civil Air Patrol while still in high school. He flew out over the Pacific for the Civil Air Patrol looking for enemy submarines. That service was the beginning of a lifelong love of aviation and service to the United States. He graduated pilot training and was commissioned in 1950 as a fighter pilot. He proudly served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He flew the F-86 and F-100, also known as the Sabre and Super Saber, aircraft that made its successful mark during those wars. Served both in the Air Force and the Air Force Reserves and was called up for active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 and the Pueblo Crisis in 1968.”
He had a varied career in the aviation industry that included extensive experience in the air cargo business and airfreight industry. After his service as a fighter pilot with the United States Air Force he, along with his brother and cousin, joined his uncle John McPherson in the startup of Airborne Flower Traffic, later Airborne Freight Corporation, and was instrumental in its growth from an airfreight forwarder and travel agency to a worldwide integrated express air carrier.
After 34 years with Airborne, he served in executive positions for Meadows Air Freight, United Parcel Service, and eventually moved to Dallas as Vice President of the Cargo Business Development Group for American Airlines.
