George “Andy” Anderson “enlisted in the United States Air Force in January, 1951. He attended Aviation Cadet Training in Bambridge, Georgia, Advanced Flying at Bryan AFB, Texas and was commissioned on December 19, 1952.
Andy’s tour of duty in the USAF included: Combat Crew Training at Nellis AFB in route to Korea -18th Fighter Wing, 12th Squadron. He flew the F-86A, F-86E, and the F-100. While at EAFB, he rotated to Chaumont, Fance, Bitburg, Germany, and Aviano, Italy for alert status. In 1960 he was stationed at Langley AFB and taught flight instrument school to all pilots, including his first seven astronauts, and flew the T-33. He was stationed in Taipei, Taiwan working with Nationalist Chinese in the joint USA & Chinese command center.
Upon departing Taiwan, he was presented with the Chinese pilots wings by CAF Chief of Staff. He returned in 1964 to Langley AFB Command Center and again flew the T-33.
During 1966 he was stationed in Bangkok, Thailand in the Thai Command Center-USOM, coordinating counter insurgency operations, and flew the U-6A. In 1967 he served as Briefing Officer for the Joint Recon Center for the US European Command Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, and flew the T-39. In 1972 he was transferred to Andrews Air Force Base, 89th Military AF Wing flying the T-39, flying training and VIP transport missions.
He retired in 1977.”(1)

Lt. Col. George B. “Andy” Anderson passed away peacefully on May 3, 2010 at Rapides Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was born on February 2, 1930 in New Baden, Texas. He attended elementary and high school in Franklin, Texas. He also attended Parish Junior College, Sam Houston, and completed his degree at Northwestern State University. Andy enlisted in the United States Air Force in January, 1951. Lt. Col. George Anderson was preceded in death by his father, Otho Anderson, his mother Vernon B. Anderson, one sister, Ellen Flynn Kleinpeter, one grandson, Garrett Bryan Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances O’Quin Anderson, two daughters, Sydney Karen Anderson of Duluth, Georgia and Nancy Anderson Blackwell of Pineville, and one son, Robert Chester Anderson and wife Monica of Pineville, one brother Dick Maris, wife Carolyn of Montgomery, Texas, two grandsons, Steven Jay Blackwell, Jr. and wife Sandy, and Landon Reece Anderson. Three great-grandchildren, Ellianna Elizabeth Blackwell, Athena Sydney Blackwell and Gavin Westley Blackwell. Pallbearers are Edmond O’Quin, Dick Gremillion, David DeLoach, Dick Maris, Todd Lee, Gregg Lee.
