Col Galer is the son of Brig Gen Robert E Galer USMC and Dorothy “Sam” Beyer Galer. His wife is Kimberley Herbert Galer. Col Galer and his wife live in Midway, UT.

After serving in the USAF, Tip Galer continued to fly with the following:
