R.C. Smith flew the F-100 in 1968 with the 429th Tactical Fighter Squadron and 524th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 27th Tactical Fighter Wing out of Cannon AFB, NM. He then flew the F-100 from 1968-1969 with the 306th Tactical Fighter Squadron/31st Tactical Fighter Wing out of Tuy Hoa AB, Vietnam.
