Lt. Colonel John Thaddeus Sutphen USAF (Ret.)
John Thaddeus “Jack” Sutphen, son of Grace Keib and Frank Sutphen was born on June 14, 1929 in Watertown, New York and passed away on February 19, 2013. A graduate of Oneida High School (1947), he attended Wentworth Institute in Boston before enlisting in the Air Force. He spent twenty-three years in the military serving tours all over the world, including Vietnam where he flew the OV-10. Afterward, he started a prosperous air conditioning company. An avid aviator, he rebuilt a 1947 Stinson and flew it all around the country many times with his friends from the Civil Air Patrol. A member of the order of Dadelians, and the quiet bird men.
A faithful Catholic, he attended Sacred Heart (where he was Scoutmaster), St. Theresa, and Our Lady of the Lake. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Earlene “Deanie” Moody and brother Russell Sutphen. He is survived by his wife Laquita (Holiday), 3 sisters Rose Ann Gallagher, Margaret Peer, and Mary Mancuso, daughter, Diana Fick, son Jim and wife Carrie, and son David, grandchildren, Amanda and Adam, great-grandchildren Taylor, Nathoria, Braden and Brannon.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, February 25, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 6100 Lohman Ford Road, Lago Vista. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 also at Our Lady of the Lake at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Words cannot express the influence this fine man had on so many. Thanks for the loving care provided by the staff at Isles of Cedar Ridge, Light House Hospice and Cottonwood
