Today in History – October 30, 1977 – When flying commercial was a luxury experience

30 October 1977– 170 passengers paid between $2222 for economy, and $3333 for first-class on Pan Am Flight 50, operated by Clipper New Horizons.

While in flight they were treated to a Gucci fashion show, musicians, and a hairdresser. They flew over the North and South poles on a flight that lasted 54 hours 7 minutes and 12 seconds round trip from San Francisco with stops in London, Cape Town, and Aukland.
