Kenneth M. Hiltz Jr. passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at the age of 88.
Ken was born on January 8, 1925, to Murray and Adelaide Hiltz in Washington, D.C. In 1945 he married Anne, his wife of 63 years. Ken graduated after World War II from American University.
He will be remembered for his passion for flying, his love of country and his devotion to family and church. Ken first soloed as a pilot at age 15 and continued to fly until 2012. He served in the Air Force from 1943 to 1970, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. Ken was a decorated veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Following his Air Force service, Ken had a career in the international insurance market. Later he created his own insurance consulting company. Ken had been active in the Stephen Ministries, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Order of the Daedalians. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; one son, Stephen; and a grandson, Ian. Survivors: Sons, Robert (Carol), Thomas (Niki) and Richard (Melinda); daughter-in-law, Susan Hiltz; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass at St. Francis Anglican Church, 3838 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas. Inurnment: in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
