John M. Egan, 81, of Riley, Indiana passed away on April 14, 2023, at Majestic Care Nursing Home in Terre Haute, Indiana.
John was born on May 1, 1941, the son of Leo and Pauline Egan.
He graduated from Paris High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Eastern Illinois University.
He is survived by his siblings: Sharon Bailey (Bob) of Paris, Illinois, Bob Egan (Sharon) Eagle, Colorado, Jerry Egan (Lori Bouslog) of Paris, Illinois, David Egan of Paris, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister: Diane Hall.
Lieutenant Colonel John Egan was a veteran of the US Air Force and Indiana National Guard for over 35 years. He was a long-term fighter pilot in that organization.
John was an avid sportsman, hunter, and fisherman; he enjoyed all sports activities. His competitive spirit made him excel at all of them. Johns hunting dog, his faithful companion, was with him until the end.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edgar County Animal Shelter or Paris American Legion Post #211.
Graveside service [was held] on Monday, May 1, 2023, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Paris, Illinois. Military Honors will also take place at the cemetery. Weather permitting. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family.
