Today in History – May 14, 1967 – Capt Sam R. Winborn ejects from F-100D #563094

Sam R. Winborn, Jr. flew 255 combat missions over Vietnam with the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron/3rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Bien Hoa Air Base.

On 14 May 1967, Buzzard 2 flew out of Bien Hoa and encountered troops in combat. He ejected from his F-100D and was recovered. He suffered minor injuries.

Lt. Col. Winborn, Headed West on October 24, 2017.  Sam received an A-10C Thunderbolt II flyover by the 104th Fighter Squadron, Aug. 14th, 2019, during his funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery.
