[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Vietnam Veteran’s Prayer by Father Phil Salois, National Chaplain, Vietnam Veterans of America (25 March 2021)
Gracious and Almighty God, every year on the 29th day of March, Vietnam veterans and those who love and care for them come to You asking for healing of memories, forgiveness for misdeeds, and blessings for the freedom we enjoy in America.
May our observance be a timely reminder that our freedom was purchased at high cost and should not be taken for granted. Bless the families and friends of those we honor today, and bless the veterans who share memories, stories, and tears to enrich this day.
Finally, dear Lord, grant eternal rest for all those whose names are inscribed on The Wall and for those You have called to Yourself since the war ended. Let us not forget those who never returned. We pray that a full accounting of them will be attained one day soon.
Amen.
The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 permanently designates that every year March 29 will be celebrated as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. It was on March 29, 1973, when combat and combat support units withdrew from South Vietnam.
Most states recognize March 28 or 29 as “Vietnam War Veterans Day”. To see what date your state recognizes the day go to https://www.ncsl.org/research/military-and-veterans-affairs/vietnam-veterans-day-legislation-and-statutes.aspx
