Ronald J. Soule - nowRonald J. (Ron) Soule passed away on August 17, 2021. He was born in Randolph, Vermont, January 19, 1933. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a BA in Journalism and earned his wings in December 1956. He flew the F-84F, the F-100D/F and served several years as an instructor. Following an AFROTC instructor assignment at Miami University (Ohio), Ron flew the A-1E/G/H/J Skyraider with the USAF Air Commandos, and flew 191 combat missions between 1968-1969, the majority of those at night on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, and later briefly flew the F-105D/F. Ron retired in June 1981, with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Ron’s awards included: Silver Star; two Distinguished Flying Crosses; twelve Air Medals; two Meritorious Service Medals; Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm.

After retirement from the USAF, Ron continued to wear the uniform as the Director, AFJROTC, St. Paul’s School, Covington, LA from 1981-87.

The patriarch of a military family, Ron lived in many countries over the years and had been a resident of Mandeville, LA for the past nine years.

Ron is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Soule-Killilea and Jim Killilea; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Elizabeth Soule; one brother, H. Jackson and Anita Soule of Inverness, FL, five grandchildren: Nicholas Peterson, Jim and Grace Soule, Mary Catherine (Soule) and Max Cutler, Joseph Soule, Alex Soule, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Carol Cummings Soule, son, Michael J. Soule; and two brothers, H. Allen Soule and Robert W. Soule.

Ron’s family will celebrate his life with a memorial service in Vermont to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity that speaks to the spirit of the Ron Soule you knew and loved.
